1. What Doxycycline Malaysia is and what it is used for

Doxycycline Malaysia contains the active substance doxycycline, which belongs to a group of antibiotics called tetracyclines, which are used to fight bacterial infections.

Doxycycline Malaysia is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by certain types of bacteria against which tetracyclines are effective.

1. What you need to know before you take Doxycycline Malaysia Do not take Doxycycline Malaysia

   • if you are allergic to doxycycline or any of the other ingredients in this medicine (see section 6);
   • if you are allergic to other medicines from the same family as Doxycycline Malaysia (tetracycline);

   if you suffer from esophageal obstruction (organ that connects the throat to the stomach) such as narrowing or a disease called achalasia, which is characterized by failure to release the esophagus while swallowing and therefore causes difficulty in swallowing and pain;

   The medicine is not indicated in pregnant women and children up to 12 years of age (see sections "Warnings and precautions" and "Pregnancy and breast-feeding").

   Warnings and precautions

   Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Doxycycline Malaysia:

   • If you have liver problems, your doctor will prescribe Doxycycline Malaysia with caution, as administration of this medicine in high doses and over a period of more than 2 weeks can lead to liver problems. In this case your doctor will stop the treatment.
   • If you have kidney problems that are even serious (kidney failure), there may be an accumulation of tetracycline antibiotics such as Doxycycline Malaysia that can worsen and cause kidney failure also liver problems. In this case, your doctor will reduce the dose of the medicine and check the amount of doxycycline in your blood and liver functions.
   • If you experience swallowing or pain behind your sternum during treatment, stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately.    During treatment with tetracycline antibiotics such as Doxycycline Malaysia, the sensitivity to light increases in predisposed people, which can lead to skin reactions after sun exposure and UV rays. Avoid exposure to excessive sunlight or UV rays while using Doxycycline Malaysia and use full or high protection sunscreens. If reactions (e.g. rashes) occur during treatment, stop treatment and contact your doctor immediately.

   When treating sexually transmitted infections (gonococcal infections), there is a risk of covering the symptoms of concomitant syphilis (severe sexually transmitted infections). Therefore, the doctor will have a blood test for at least 4 months.

   If you take this medicine for a long time, your doctor will regularly check your blood tests (blood cramps) and liver and kidney function.

   As with other antibiotics, the use of Doxycycline Malaysia can lead to new infections that overlap with existing ones (superinfections) due to bacteria that are resistant or insensitive to tetracyclines (i.e. bacteria that are not effective against tetracyclines). Intestinal infections (enterocolitis) due to resistant bacteria can occur during treatment. In this case, the doctor will stop the treatment immediately and initiate suitable therapy.

   Almost all antibiotics, including Doxycycline Malaysia, can cause diarrhea associated with the bacterium Clostridium difficile, which can range from mild to life-threatening, even a few weeks after treatment. If you get diarrhea after treatment with Doxycycline Malaysia, if it gets worse or persists, tell your doctor immediately.

   Cases of increased pressure in the skull have been reported with high-dose treatments (benign intracranial hypertension). These effects quickly disappeared after treatment was discontinued.

   In children under the age of 12, Doxycycline Malaysia, like the other tetracyclines, should only be given in emergencies and under the direct supervision of a doctor.

   These medicines reduce the absorption of Doxycycline Malaysia and therefore avoid concomitant use or take these medicines at least 2 hours before or after Doxycycline Malaysia:

   • Antacids containing aluminum, calcium or magnesium (medicines used for stomach acid);
   • oral products containing iron, zinc or bismuth.

   Be careful and tell your doctor if you are also taking the following medicines:

   • Lithium (used to treat mental illness), methotrexate (used to treat tumors), digoxin (used to increase heart contraction) and ergot derivatives (used to treat headaches): concomitant use of Doxycycline Malaysia increases the blood concentration of these medicines;
   • Medicines to thin the blood (anticoagulants) such as warfarin. Doxycycline Malaysia can reduce the ability of the blood to clot (prothrombin activity). If necessary, your doctor will adjust the dose of the anticoagulants you take with Doxycycline Malaysia.
   • Penicillins (a type of antibiotic) as an interference between the antibacterial activities of Doxycycline Malaysia and this class of antibiotics are possible. Avoid using Doxycycline Malaysia and penicillins at the same time.
   • Medicines for seizures (anticonvulsants) such as barbiturates (phenobarbital, primidone), carbamazepine and phenytoin;
   • Medicines to prevent pregnancy (oral contraceptives). Doxycycline Malaysia reduces the effectiveness of these medicines;
   • Cyclosporin (to prevent rejection after organ transplants). Doxycycline Malaysia increases the concentration of cyclosporin in the blood. Simultaneous use of Doxycycline Malaysia and the following medicines is not recommended:
   • Methoxyflurane, a medicine used during anesthesia or for pain (analgesic). Severe, even fatal kidney damage can occur.
   • Systemic retinoids, medicines used to treat psoriasis, inflammatory skin conditions and other skin conditions, as there is a risk of reversible increases in pressure in the skull (benign intracranial hypertension).

   If you need to have a urine analysis, tell your doctor that you are taking Doxycycline Malaysia, as this medicine can change the results of a laboratory test (incorrect increase in urine catecholamine levels during the fluorescence test).

   Doxycycline Malaysia with food, drink and alcohol

   Avoid drinking alcohol and beverages, or milk or dairy products during treatment with Doxycycline Malaysia, as these foods can reduce the absorption of the medicine.

   If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, planning to become pregnant, or plan to breast-feed, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

   Tetracycline antibiotics such as Doxycycline Malaysia are excreted in breast milk. Therefore, do not take Doxycycline Malaysia while breastfeeding.

   Drive and use machines

   There are no reports that treatment with Doxycycline Malaysia could affect the ability to drive and use machines.

2. How to take Doxycycline Malaysia

   Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

   The recommended dose is 2 tablets at the same time for the first day of treatment and then 1 tablet per day for the following days. In the case of severe infections, the doctor determines the appropriate dose.

   For infections caused by Group A Streptococcus beta hemolytic bacteria, treatment should take at least 10 days.

   To ensure that the bacteria responsible for the infection are sensitive to Doxycycline Malaysia and the therapy is therefore effective, the doctor may subject them to a special examination before the treatment called an antibiogram, which will allow you to test the sensitivity of the bacteria to different ones Evaluate antibiotics.

   Mode of administration

   • Skin reactions due to sensitivity to light (photosensitization).

   • Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis);
   • severe life-threatening allergic skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), one or more cockade lesions on the skin with a target-like appearance (erythema multiforme);
   • Skin inflammation with dandruff (exfoliative dermatitis);
   • Nail fall after sun exposure (photo-onycholysis);
   • Joint pain (arthralgia) and muscle pain (myalgia);
   • Worsening of symptoms of a disease that causes severe muscle weakness called myasthenia gravis (see section "Warnings and precautions");

4. How to keep Doxycycline Malaysia

   Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

   Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after "expiry date". The expiry date refers to the last day of this month.

   Do not store above 25 ° C.

   Do not throw medication into wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how you can get rid of medicines you no longer use. This helps protect the environment.
