1. What is Inderal and what is it used for?

   Inderal contains propranolol hydrochloride.

   Inderal belongs to the beta blocker class.

   • Inderal is indicated in adults:
• to control high blood pressure.
• to treat chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart (angina pectoris).
• prevent further heart attacks (heart attack).
• to prevent severe and frequent headaches (migraines).
• for the treatment of tremors.
• To control anxiety and the increase in heartbeat (tachycardia) due to anxiety.
• together with other medicines to treat an excess of thyroid hormones in the blood (thyrotoxicosis) and the manifestations associated with this disease.
• to treat an inherited disorder characterized by thickening of the walls of the heart (obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy).
• to treat a tumor near the kidney (pheochromocytoma) together with a medicine to treat the high blood pressure caused by the tumor.
• Inderal is indicated for adults, children and adolescents:

to control an irregular heartbeat (irregular heartbeat). Talk to your doctor if you don't feel better or worse.

1. What you need to know before you take Inderal

   Don't take Inderal

• if you are allergic to propanolol hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients in this medicine (see section 6).
• if you have a lung disease that makes breathing difficult (bronchial asthma or bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
• if you suffer from slow heartbeats (bradycardia);
• if you suffer from a heart disorder that causes reduced blood flow, which prevents the tissue from receiving oxygen (cardiogenic shock);
• if you have low blood pressure (hypotension)
• if you suffer from increased blood acidity (metabolic acidosis);
• if you fast for longer;
• if you have severe poor circulation in the arms and legs;
• if you have kidney problems (kidney failure)
• if you suffer from electrical conduction or irregular heartbeat (2nd and 3rd degree atrioventricular blockage; sinus node disease);
• if you have kidney cancer (pheochromocytoma) that has not been treated with an antihypertensive drug (an alpha blocker);
• if your heart is unable to deliver blood in an adequate amount in relation to the body's actual requirement (heart failure);
• if you have severe chest pain at rest caused by decreased blood supply to the heart (Prinzmetal's angina pectoris);
• If you are taking verapamil and diltiazem, medicines to treat high blood pressure (see section Other medicines and Inderal).
• if you have low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), for example after fasting for a long time or if you have difficulty metabolizing sugar;
• if you are pregnant or breastfeeding;
• if your child has a disease other than irregular heartbeat (see section 1. What is Inderal and what it is used for).

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Inderal. Contact your doctor before starting therapy:

• if you have ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. due to an insect bite);
• if you have kidney, liver or thyroid problems (a throat gland);
• if you have diabetes
• if you have blood flow or heart problems;
• if you suffer from electrical conduction or irregular heartbeat (1 ° atrioventricular block)
• if you have difficulty breathing or swelling your ankles
• if you have inflammation of the bronchi (bronchitis);
• If you suffer from severe heart problems (heart failure), you will be treated with appropriate therapy.
• if you have suffered from a reduced or irregular heartbeat, very low blood pressure and severe circulatory disorders;

If you have mild circulatory disorders in the arms and legs, symptoms may get worse during treatment with Inderal. Heart rate may decrease during treatment with Inderal. This effect is normal, but if it gives cause for concern, it is advisable to consult your doctor. Inderal may occasionally cause a drop in blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), even in non-diabetic patients such as infants, children, the elderly, patients with chronic liver disease (chronic liver failure), or patients who have taken too high a dose of medication.

For those who do sports

The use of the drug without therapeutic need is a doping and can in any case determine the positivity for doping tests.

Children and adolescents

Inderal is indicated for children and adolescents in the indication cardiac arrhythmia (see section 1. What is Inderal and what is it used for).

Other drugs and Inderal

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or may be taking other medicines.

In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• Lidocaine and other anesthetics (medicines that can be given to you if you are going to have surgery tell the anesthetist about this therapy)
• Clonidine (a medicine used to treat high blood pressure or to prevent migraines). Treatment with Clonidine or Inderal should not be stopped without consulting your doctor
• Disopyramide, quinidine or propafenone (medicines used to treat heartbeat irregular)
• Chlorpromazine or thioridazine (medicines used to treat some psychiatric problems)
• Analgesics such as indomethacin or ibuprofen (medicines used to treat pain and inflammation)
• Medicinal products based on ergot or rhizatriptan (medicines used for treatment) Migraine),

Insulin or other anti-diabetic treatments. In diabetic patients, Inderal can occasionally change the response to these drugs. Inderal may occasionally change the normal response to low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), which generally leads to an increase in heart rate. Inderal can reduce these symptoms. In rare cases, hypoglycemia can reach levels that lead to uncontrolled body movements (seizures) or coma.

Inderal with alcohol

Alcoholic beverages should be avoided during treatment with Inderal.

pregnancy and breast feeding period

The use of the product is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation (see section 2. Do not take Inderal).

Drive and use machines

Inderal is unlikely to affect your ability to drive and use machines. However, some patients who receive Inderal may experience dizziness and tiredness at times. If these symptoms are present, it is advisable not to carry out these activities.

Inderal contains lactose

If your doctor has diagnosed that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact him before taking this medicine.

1. How to take Inderal

   Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

   You must follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose, method, and frequency of taking the tablets. The specified daily dose must be spread over the day.

   The tablets should be taken with a little water, preferably always at the same time.

   Adults

   High blood pressure

   The recommended starting dose is 40 mg twice a day, and your doctor may increase it at weekly intervals in relation to your response to treatment. Usually the usual doses are between 160 and 320 mg / day. Your doctor may also prescribe diuretics or other antihypertensive medicines (medicines to treat high blood pressure) to further lower your blood pressure.

   Chest pain, anxiety, severe and frequent headache, tremor

   The recommended starting dose is 40 mg two or three times a day, and your doctor may increase it by the same amount at weekly intervals depending on your response to treatment. Adequate response to anxiety, headache, and tremors is usually achieved with a dose range between 80 and 160 mg / day.

   In general, the dosage of 240 mg per day should not be exceeded for chest pain.

   Irregular heartbeat, increased heartbeat due to anxiety, hereditary disease, characterized by thickening of the heart walls and excess thyroid hormones in the blood

   The recommended dose is 10-40 mg three to four times a day.

   Prevention of further heart attacks

   Treatment should be started between the 5th and 21st day after a heart attack (heart attack). The recommended starting dose is 1 40 mg tablet 4 times a day for 2 to 3 days. The daily dose can be administered with two daily doses of 80 mg.

   Tumor near the kidney

   Before surgery: The recommended dose is 60 mg / day for 3 days. In non-operable malignant cases: The recommended dose is 30 mg / day.

   Patients with liver or kidney disease

   Arrhythmias

   The dose must be determined individually and the following scheme is only a guideline:

   Children and teenagers:

   0.25-0.5 mg / kg 3-4 times a day, adjusted to the reaction. Maximum dose 1 mg / kg 4 times a day, the total daily dose should not exceed 160 mg per day.

   Use in children and adolescents

   Under certain circumstances, Inderal can be used to treat arrhythmias in children (irregular heartbeat). The dosage is adjusted by the doctor depending on the age and weight of your child.

   If you take more Inderal than you should

   If you accidentally take an Inderal overdose, tell your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital.

   Overdose symptoms may include slow heartbeat (bradycardia), low blood pressure (hypotension), severe heart problems (acute heart failure), and difficulty breathing (bronchospasm).

   If you forget to take Inderal

   Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

   If you forget to take a dose, you should take it as soon as possible.

   If you stop taking Inderal

   An improvement in health should not lead to treatment discontinuation unless the doctor instructs you to do so.

   Treatment should be discontinued gradually.

   If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

2. possible side effects

   Like all medications, this medication can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

   As with any medication, the following side effects may occur with the following frequency during treatment with Inderal:

   Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

   • Cold feeling in the fingers and toes
   • slow heartbeat
   • Numbness and cramping of the fingers, followed by sensations of heat and pain (Raynaud's phenomenon)
   • Sleep disorders / nightmares

   Fatigue and / or weakness (often passengers).

   Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

   • diarrhea
   • nausea
   • Vomit.

   Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):

   • Worsening of breathing difficulties in asthma (lung disease that makes breathing difficult)
   • Feeling of wheezing and / or swelling in the ankles if you have heart disease (decompensation cardiac)
   • Heart block (a condition that may cause an abnormal heartbeat, dizziness, tiredness or fainting)

   • Vision problems, dry eyes

   Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):

   • severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis).

   Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

   • Decrease in blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) in diabetics and non-diabetics, including infants, children, the elderly, dialysis patients or patients on anti-diabetic therapy. Hypoglycemia can also be seen in fasting patients or in patients with severe liver disease (chronic liver failure).
   • uncontrolled body movements (cramps) related to hypoglycemia.
   • Changes in some cells or other blood components. The doctor may occasionally ask to be checked to see if Inderal has an effect on blood cells.
   • a headache
   • Rashes characterized by redness and blisters (erythematous).

3. How to save Inderal

   This medicine does not require a special storage temperature. Store in the original packaging.

   Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

   Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of this month.

   Do not throw medication into wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to get rid of medicines you no longer use. This helps protect the environment.

4. Contents of the pack and other information What Inderal contains

• The active substance is propranolol hydrochloride 40 mg
• The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate (see section 2. Inderal contains lactose), gelatin, stearic acid, magnesium stearate.
